Dear Dr. Bob,

This is a small local version of the “outrage of the week”. I listen faithfully to Barry Young on KFYI talk radio every weekday morning and really enjoy his show; but, this morning he was discussing that about a 1 1/2 weeks ago he got the latest flu bug very severely and that he went to his trusted, long-time family doctor and the doctor said that “it’s not important what you have, let’s just treat it” . . and then he gave him some strong antibiotics (take 1 a day over the next 6 days). Barry was just amazed when the next morning he felt so much better and continued to recover all due to the great antibiotics he was taking and the “great wisdom” of the family doctor.

I thought you might enjoy this little story, as it exemplifies how doctors handle patients these days, especially by avoiding a specific diagnosis and, secondly, by just handing out antibiotics for a virus — a process which ,you have educated me, is ineffective and worthless. Amazing! Unfortunately, this statement of Barry’s reached an enormous amount of the local populus. Too bad … they’re all now “infected” with a brainwashing virus.

Thanks for making life so much better for me and my family. My 84 year old mom loves you, too.

Yours truly,

Barbara B.
