Should nurses be able to treat patients without supervision to fill the doctor shortage void?
Loading ... Loading ... Loading ... Loading ...Thought you’d like this little outrage my mom and I experienced from her Neurologist here in Phoenix.
My mom has neuropathy and was told by her doctor that there was no cure but she could take Neurontin to control the pain. She has been on a minimal amount of Neurontin, 200mg at night along with Hi Health’s Pain Management formula, because she had to be able to sleep at night. They originally had her on 400 mg a day but she had a psycotic episode, and we cut it down to where she can tolerate the dose. She also went on Methocobalamin (per your suggestion) and her Naturopathic physician (who she goes to for Chiropractic adjustments for her back) also recommended Alpha Lipoic Acid for the Neuropathy and for her Macular Degeneration.
On our last visit this past week to her Neurologist, he just laughed at her (and me) for taking vitamins and for taking the Methocobalamin and the Alpha Lipoic Acid (she also takes a supplement for her eyes which includes Lutein and Zinc, etc.). He said we might as well save our money because after you get to be 70 years old, the body just breaks down and there is nothing you can do except get ready to meet your Maker and take the medicine available to you through your doctor (aughhhhhhh!). He (with a condescending smile) told me to take my Mom out and buy her a new dress or a pair of shoes and save the money we are spending on supplements. We told him we would keep on trying with our supplements, as we have had some really positive results in other areas of our health. We said that she has hope for success in treating the problems she currently is experiencing, and that since he could offer her no cure for this disease, just pain conrol, we’ll go for the cure. He got very uncomfortable and ended her exam very quickly.
After we left, my Mom told me she was going to cut the Neurontin to 100mg and starting that night (along with one of the Pain Management Formula). She did, and slept just as well as she had been with the 200mg. She is working on eliminating it altogether and has had some success with relieve in her feet already. She’s a great person and willing to keep an open mind about natural healing. Thanks for your help and your great weekend show (both days). You’ve changed our lives.
