Obese teenage men increase their risk of developing rectal cancer in later life by 71 per cent, according to the largest study of its kind.

Adolescent women who are obese double their risk of getting the cancer as adults, the research adds.

Carrying too much weight also increases a man’s risk of colon cancer by 53 per cent and a woman’s by 54 per cent, the study found.
