Eight in ten of women in their 50s and 60s carry too much fat around their waists, the chief medical officer has warned.

While 75 per cent of men of the same age share the same problem, Dame Sally Davies said.

Having excessive amounts of visceral fat increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
